One of the great things to come out of the pandemic (however limited that list is..) has got to be the appearance of incredible outdoor food trucks made from otherwise redundant materials like old shipping containers and horseboxes. These food trucks gave amazing chefs the opportunity to keep cooking over lockdown, and we are so glad to see many of them remain or talks of reopening again in the summer months, especially now the weather is picking up! Here’s a few of our faves!
Fish Basket Long Strand
If ever you needed an excuse to road trip out to Long Strand, there’s never been one more valid than to visit the Fish Basket. This wonderful truck opened in the summer right on the cusp of Long Strand Beach, overlooking the water and delighted walkers. We’re not kidding when we say this is some of the freshest fish and chips you can get in the county, and that includes their stunning scampi, open crab sandwiches, and incredible fish tacos. They also have children’s portions for the perfect family day out and have since began serving a delicious brunch menu also! Next time you’re going anywhere near that direction, trust us and pay a visit! Check out their Instagram here!
Trawler Boyz Ballycotton
Another stunning truck to treat yourself to beautiful fresh seafood is Trawler Boyz. Their menu is wonderful and creative, incorporating seafood into some everyday favourites such as their seafood spice box, prawn curry, and spicy tomato prawn pasta. Trawler Boyz have delicious wok-fried dishes that have a lovely oriental edge, and also plenty of non-seafood items on the menu for any seafood stragglers! Next time you’re heading out to the stunning Ballycotton, make sure you make these guys your pit-stop! If we haven’t convinced you enough, you can have a browse of their delicious food to seal the deal here!
Bean and Berry
Another great place to add to your list is Bean and Berry who you’ll find in Garretstown. Bean and Berry is the perfect spot to visit after a morning swim or surf where you can fill up on the goodness of a fresh acai bowl and stunning coffee. You can choose your acai bowl from a range of your favourite, fresh fruits and top it with all the perfectly instagrammable delights, and wrap it all up with an incredible homemade sweet treat. You’ll need to keep an eye on this one though as it only opens sporadically throughout the year to keep us on our toes for their full return in the summer, keep up to date by following their Instagram here!
This artisan food truck is certainly one that caught our eye! Hailing from out in Rosscarbery, Craft is weekend brunch, lunch, and dinner spot with incredible menus. At brunch you can treat yourself to all thing’s eggs, buttys and sausage rolls, for lunch you can enjoy an insane toastie, and the dinner menu is a celebration of specials which can be anything from West Cork tapas to American corn dog night, or Around the World mixed menu. They even do cocktails!! If you’re feeling a little adventurous, make sure to add these guys to your list, we promise it’s worth the trip! Check out their socials here!
Grilly McGrill Grill
Finally, we have one of our all time favourite toastie spots. There’s not much competing you can do with a humble toastie that’s jam-packed and done well. Thankfully, we have Grilly McGrill Grill to help us with that! Originally starting their journey in the Cricket Club, these guys have bagged themselves a spot in the wonderful Marina Market to dish us up grilled cheese on demand! What’s more is they’re not only a lunch spot either, because you can enjoy a breakfast toastie or some of their insane pancakes, with crispy bacon and oozy maple syrup! Feast your eyes on incredible toastie pics here!
It's wonderful to be back dining indoors for sure, but we hope we’ll never see the end of this unreal food truck trend that treats us to incredible food on-the-go and on days out enjoying nature. We can’t wait to see what new places will be in contention for our list as the summer fast approaches!
